born 1975 in Teheran & Vienna
studied Art and Philosophy

Represented by Galerie Ernst Hilger

Asgar/Gabriels paintings question our perception and concepts of the norm. Blurred figures on the verge of physical dissolution and strikingly clearly painted sceneries, whose protagonists one believes to know personally, their play with light-dark, the chiaroscuro in its classical form, enriched by luminous screens - portals into worlds that seem more present than the reality in which the protagonists of the pictures actually find themselves. Close the windows and escape into the digital, an unattainable, idealized or daunting place. Between the outer poles of abstraction and figuration there are indefinite degrees of gradations. It is in these in-between worlds the magic of Asgar/Gabriels art unfolds. The visual language of the new series is as striking as the applied techniques. The works take the observer through an art-historical labyrinth full of references and new interpretations, transforming the gallery into an in-between space of its own various timelines, moods and aesthetic universes intertwine.
